Movement for Wellness

Alexander Technique, Yoga, Pilates

I offer an intelligent, holistic approach to pilates and yoga. With over 25 years experience teaching movement, I provide safe and effective sessions geared toward your goals. My approach respects the anatomical reality of the body, and incorporates The Alexander Technique. (I am a nationally certified Alexander Technique instructor.)

Currently, due to Covid-19, I am teaching online via zoom and at my West Hartford, CT studio. In-person teaching in Brooklyn is suspended until further notice.

I tailor each movement session to the individual to facilitate a balance of strength, flexibility, tone, and connectivity within the body. My instruction is breath-centered and draws on
our innate desire to MOVE to feel better, grounded, and more alive.

I received my pilates teacher training from the Kane School in NYC (2003-5) and have since studied intensively at The Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado. I have also studied with prominent movement specialists including Irene Dowd and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, founder of Body-Mind Centering. I taught Pilates/Somatic Education as Adjunct Professor at Long Island University, Dance Department, for over a decade.

I obtained yoga certification from The Yoga School New York (2013) and Shambhava Yoga (1998), with additional training through the Body-Mind Centering and Yoga certification programs.

I also teach prenatal, postpartum, and post-injury pilates and can work closely with your physical therapist to optimize healing.

TESTIMONIALS

Vanessa is fun to work with! She is always positive, constructive, and incredibly responsive to the issues that arise with my body. I consider myself incredibly lucky to work with someone who understands my body so well.

I am a 70 year old male with an extensive background in martial arts. I just retired from a high pressure career on Wall Street and moved to the Hartford area. At the suggestion of my nephew, who is an actor, I started Alexander Technique (AT) training with Vanessa. The results have been spectacular. By letting go of layer upon layer of unnecessary conditioned tension, I am finding a level of balance and wellbeing that transcends even my experiences in martial arts. I view this as a life altering experience. Vanessa’s sensitivity to AT nuance and her depth of knowledge of movement is truly world class. I highly recommend her.
